What was your goal when you came to Amex Health?
My goals have actually evolved over the year. Initially, it was to lose my belly weight, fit better into clothes, and to get into as good of shape as my wife (who is also an Amex Health client). Then it was to add muscle. Now it’s to have a healthy lifestyle.
What was your light bulb moment that pushed you to make a change?
I went on vacation with my friend. He was lean, fit, and in good shape. I was the opposite – bulbous, billowy, and sedentary. He was eating healthily and exercising even while on vacation. We were sitting outside talking, and while I was sweating and feeling overwhelmed by the heat and humidity, he was comfortable and enjoyed being outside. I decided then to get into better shape, reduce my alcohol consumption, and have a healthier lifestyle.
What keeps you motivated to be healthy?
What is the biggest struggle: food, exercise, temptation?
I enjoy lifting weights, but I really don’t like the cardio. It is also tricky to not fall back into the “fast food” cycle – running late and eating bad food. It takes a bit longer to eat more healthy, but it tastes so much better when you eat right.
What is the best part of the progress you’ve made?
Fitting into clothes and having a reason/excuse to finally update my wardrobe for better fitting clothes. Funny story: My wife bought me some clothes that I didn’t fit in because they were too small, and I was too big. I never returned the clothes and have been yelled at for never doing so. After losing weight, I now fit into all the clothes, so no need to be yelled at anymore!
